  • Topics and objectives:

The horrors of violence committed by the Nazis only started to get apparent after the conclusion of WWII. The foremost question that arose during that time was how it was possible to commit such crimes on a basic human level? War criminals were thought of as evil, sadists or psychopats but these perpetrators turned out to be regular people with normal lives and social relationships. Consideration grew towards the need to understand the role of the perpetrator and how regular human beings were able to commit sich horrible acts of violence. In this lecture, historical examples and social-psychological research are being presented in order to understand the timeless mechanisms of collective violence. We try to understand how mass-violence is still made possible in today's concept of terrorism but also in daily life..
